Broken Wall
We are the forgotten sons of these two cities. What they did not forget is our mine.
Broken Wall sits at the gap in the scrap wall between Sinking City and the eastern wastes, the section that was never repaired after the Rising City basin flooded. The scrap that once formed this stretch of wall now sits at the bottom of the poisoned lake, and the residents of Broken Wall face the same threats as the open Pridelands with no castillo fortifications to hide behind.
The people who live here have too many connections in Sinking City or Rising City to leave but too many enemies there to stay. Some hold hope that the scrap wall will one day be restored. Most have stopped expecting it. A mercenary group dubbed the East Guard is paid to defend residents from the infected, with some staying local while others range to outer settlements.
Mining makes for decent income. Nearby digs have rediscovered remnants of Mexico City's past: a former garbage dump holds treasures of metal and plastic, and limestone and iron deposits lie to the south. Unfortunately, the infected make their way into the tunnels. Underground encounters with no way out are almost certainly fatal, and the miners who descend each morning know the odds as well as anyone.
Broken Wall endures because the mines produce enough to pay the East Guard and because no one else wants the gap in the wall. The infected pound on doors every few nights. The tunnels claim workers every few weeks. The residents keep digging because the alternative is joining the exodus to cities that have already turned them away.

History
Broken Wall came into existence by subtraction. When the Rising City basin flooded, the section of scrap wall between the two cities collapsed and sank into the poisoned lake. The gap was never repaired. Residents who could not leave the area settled at the breach, forming a community defined by what it lacked: walls, protection, and the attention of anyone in either neighboring city.
The discovery of viable mining operations nearby gave Broken Wall a reason to persist. The former garbage dumps and mineral deposits produce enough income to pay the East Guard mercenaries and sustain a population that both Sinking City and Rising City would prefer to forget. The settlement endures as a testament to the stubbornness of people who have run out of better options.

Geography
Broken Wall occupies the gap in the scrap wall between Sinking City and Rising City, where the barrier was never repaired after the eastern basin flooded. The scrap that once formed this section now sits at the bottom of Rising City's poisoned lake. The settlement has no grand castillos, no walls, and faces the open Pridelands with its full complement of threats. Nearby mines penetrate into former garbage dumps rich in metal and plastic salvage, with limestone and iron deposits to the south. The mining tunnels extend underground into unstable terrain where infected infiltration is constant.
