Captain William Palmer

William Palmer was born into the Pure Blood Royals of the Kingdom, a child of privilege whose parents spent their days fighting for trade routes and expanded influence. Politics bored him. He left the negotiations and the scheming to his mother and father and went looking for something sharper.
He found it in the Rat King's guards. Palmer began training alongside them, drilling the soldiers and organizing their ranks without any formal authority to do so. His parents were content to have him occupied. Then the Rat King himself took notice. A personal commission arrived: ten men and women to train as part of the standing army. Palmer threw himself into the task and never looked back.
As captain of his own squad within the Knights of the Rat King, Palmer combined the discipline of a trained officer with the zealotry of a true believer. He saw the Kingdom as worth defending at any cost. When the Rat King allied with the Iron Works and rebellion stirred across the Rum Coast, Palmer became the sharp end of the response. He sent spies into settlements to assess seditious activity, prepared elite forces for major offensives, and directed assassination squads against postal workers and Uprising sympathizers.
His childhood playmate, Emilie Chambers, later fled the Kingdom rather than live under the system Palmer enforced. Where Chambers saw oppression, Palmer saw order. Where the New Kingdom saw tyranny, Palmer saw duty. The distinction did not trouble him. He preferred action over talk, and the Regicide era gave him no shortage of action.
