Chancellors of Order

Sub-sect of Cult of the Fallow Hopes

The Fallow Hopes are not known for flexibility. The Chancellors of Order make the rest of the Cult look relaxed by comparison. Born in isolation on the Wailing Shores, cut off from the mainland's leadership for decades, the Chancellors forged an interpretation of Discipline so rigid it became a faith within the faith. To them, order is not merely a strategy for survival. It is survival's foundation, its walls, and its law.
What distinguishes the Chancellors from their parent Cult is the scope of their devotion. Where the Fallow Hopes enforce their own tenets, the Chancellors extend that enforcement to every legal code they live under. Local laws, settlement regulations, governmental structures; the Chancellors treat all of them as sacred constructs, worthy of the same obedience they give to the faith itself. To uphold the law is to honor civilization. To dismantle it invites ruin. This makes them valuable enforcers in well-governed settlements and extremely dangerous adversaries in poorly governed ones.
When the Chancellors judge a society's laws as unjust, when structure stagnates or corruption takes root, they are not afraid to break things apart. Controlled upheaval is a tool in their arsenal. Those who enforce unjust laws become enemies of the sect, and the Chancellors have proven they will act on that conviction. Information flows through their ranks on a strict need-to-know basis, controlled through a system they call the Divine Table, ensuring that knowledge serves authority rather than undermining it.

Public Agenda

Uphold absolute discipline and enforce the structures of law and order as the foundation of survival. The Chancellors treat a society's legal codes as extensions of their religious devotion, defending just systems with the same fervor they bring to the Fallow Hopes' own tenets, and dismantling unjust ones with calculated force.

History

The Chancellors of Order arose during the early days of the Fall, assigned to secure the treacherous Wailing Shores, a cluster of isolated islets and dangerous wastelands far from the mainland's core leadership. With no reinforcements and communication severed, necessity drove their interpretation of the Fallow Hopes' tenets toward an extreme focus on brutal efficiency and absolute discipline. When the Chancellors finally re-established contact with the mainland faith, they had become something distinct. Initially met with skepticism and mistrust, their effectiveness in maintaining order could not be denied, and the head of the Chancellors rose to become the Beacon of Discipline, securing their place as a recognized subsect.
