Grinders
In the Iron Gardens, survivors learn to look up before they look ahead. The Grinders taught them that.
Among the most feared threats in Old York's elevated jungle of rusted steel and overgrown walkways, Grinders are undead that have adapted to vertical predation. They scale metal support beams with a grip that living climbers cannot match, suspend themselves from ceiling structures, and wait. A Grinder can hang motionless above a corridor for hours, days, however long it takes for a solitary target to pass beneath.
The attack comes from above. The Grinder drops onto its prey, and the impact alone can end a fight before it begins. Grinders prefer isolated targets. The scent of wounded prey triggers a state of frenzied hunger that overrides any remaining caution. Blunt force trauma is the most reliable countermeasure.
