Iron Jungle Cats
The zoos opened when the world ended. Not deliberately; the cages rusted, the fences fell, the keepers died or fled, and everything inside walked out into a city that was rapidly becoming something other than civilization. Most of the animals did not survive the first winter. The cats did.
Iron Jungle Cats are massive predatory felines that bear more resemblance to ancient saber-toothed cats than anything in modern taxonomy. Covered in oily black fur, they stalk the rooftops and elevated walkways of the Iron Gardens as apex predators. They are not undead, and they are immune to the Infection.
Their temperament is aggressive only when hunting or defending territory. A Jungle Cat that believes it is losing a fight will disengage and run. Survivors in the Iron Gardens learn the signs quickly: claw marks on elevated walkways, the absence of smaller wildlife, oily black fur snagged on structural beams.
