Julius Grant
You might notice the pallor of Julius Grant's face, or the coldness of his eyes, but most people in Marshal's Town do not look that closely. He is thin and gaunt with desiccated features, his flesh pocked and rotten from prolonged radiation exposure. He dresses in somber blacks and greys, usually wearing some version of a suit jacket, tie, and boots. The locals take him for a Retrograde. He is not. Julius Grant is Full Dead, one of the few of his kind operating in the Misery Bay region, and he has dedicated what remains of his existence to a singular purpose: finding a cure for the Infection.
Grant serves as a head experimenter for the Mon Corporation, working out of underground laboratories beneath the Big House in Marshal's Town. His public cover involves work with plants and seeds, but his true research focuses on Strain experimentation. He sees particular promise in Remnants, hoping their mutations can be coaxed into yielding results that might undo what the Infection has done to humanity. Every experiment to date has failed. He continues regardless.
What makes Grant genuinely dangerous is not his methods but his philosophy. He does not see a problem with destroying all Strains of humanity, including himself. He believes the Strains are abominations, that the Infection should be beaten back so new life can flourish in its place. He is willing to die for the cure, willing to kill for it, and willing to erase everything the post-Fall world has built if that is what it takes. He walks through Marshal's Town in the evenings, a dead man in a suit among people who have no idea what he is or what he intends to do to them.

Personal history
Julius Grant has existed long enough in the radiation of Misery Bay to acquire the rotting features of a Retrograde, a coincidence that serves him well. He walks among the living in Marshal's Town without suspicion, his true nature hidden behind flesh that has decayed in the right ways to pass for another Strain entirely. How long he has been Full Dead, or what he was before, are questions he does not answer.
He became one of the Mon Corporation's head experimenters through demonstrated competence and absolute dedication. His laboratories beneath the Big House in Marshal's Town are where the real work happens, far from the plant and seed research that serves as his public cover. He focuses on Strain experimentation, particularly on Remnants, whose mutations he believes hold the key to reversing or destroying the Infection. No subject has survived his experiments so far.
Grant operates with a clarity that most would call madness. He views every Strain, including his own, as a corruption that must be erased so something better can take its place. The cure he seeks is not salvation for the living but annihilation of what the Infection created. He will work until he succeeds or until whatever animates his dead body finally gives out, and he considers either outcome acceptable.
