Murderer's Mile
Well over a mile long, bordered on both sides and sometimes above by casinos and entertainment halls, Murderer's Mile is the primary strip of Vegas City. Pre-fall buildings have been networked together across many acres of gambling facilities, and branches of metal adorned with broken colored glass and old-world plastics reach upward from both sides. Filtered light accompanies music echoing outward from the establishments. The open entrance is lit with fires visible for miles, marked by giant cage-like sculptures in the shape of rolling dice.
Snipers sit guard on the rooftops for the casinos below. Most shots target thieves or threats, but shootings sometimes happen in sport or boredom. On the founding anniversary, the dice sculptures are filled with bales of reeds, accelerants, and scrub plants and set ablaze, marking a weeklong celebration where families compete for station and properties, risking everything from their lowest slave to their own freedom. Hundreds buy into a lottery at the top of the Freemont Canopy, and those whose names are drawn must survive until the next morning to claim their new positions.
