Terra Gardens

Terra Gardens is a freed Iron Slave who lives in the outlier settlement of Speedtown, known before the Fall as Indy. Formerly designated Planter #908, her chosen name reflects the new life she built beyond bondage. She described Speedtown as a crossroads from which one could reach anywhere, a description that carried weight for someone who had once been property with no right to travel at all.
The act of choosing a name is one of the most significant things a freed Iron can do. Planter #908 was a designation assigned by the system that owned her. Terra Gardens is a declaration of selfhood, a name that speaks to growth and life rather than the utilitarian function the Ironworks had assigned to her body. In Speedtown, at the crossroads of the wasteland, she was free to be whoever that name meant to her.

Personal history

Terra Gardens was born into the Ironworks' slave system as Planter #908, a designation that reduced her to an agricultural labor unit. How she gained her freedom and reached Speedtown is not recorded, but the journey from numbered slave to named person in an outlier settlement represents one of the most difficult paths any Iron could walk. Speedtown's position as a crossroads settlement, accessible from multiple directions but beholden to no single power, made it a natural destination for freed Irons seeking a life beyond the reach of the Ironworks' recovery apparatus.
