Vegasian Politicalis

The Vegasian Politicalis is Vegasia's government, and everyone in the city knows exactly what that means. They are the most openly corrupt individuals the region could muster: a board of directors voted in on a regular basis, serving as the closest thing to a go-between for the High Rollers and the average person. Bribery is not a scandal here. It is the status quo. Coercion is not dirty practice. It is simply how business gets done.
Selection happens during the founding anniversary, when names are drawn from a giant drum at the top of the Freemont Canopy. Those chosen must survive until the next morning to claim their positions, a tradition that weeds out the unlucky and the unprepared in equal measure. Officials are elected yearly for various board positions, each one stepping into a role that exists primarily to absorb blame, collect bribes, and keep the machinery of Vegasian commerce grinding forward without requiring the High Rollers to show their faces.
For the ordinary citizen, the Politicalis offers a crude but functional service. Water rights, minor disputes, and bureaucratic tangles can all be handled with the right bribe, without ever needing to attract the attention of the families that truly run the city. The Politicalis occasionally blots out sections of records or causes key copies to disappear from the Freemont Canopy when it suits their interests. Nobody pretends otherwise. In Vegasia, the corruption is the feature, not the flaw.
