Adherents of Betrayal

Most Murder Inc factions recruit the willing and teach them to kill. The Adherents of Betrayal work in reverse. They scout trade routes, dockyards, and freight offices for individuals who have already mastered the logistics of moving goods across the wasteland. Haulers, route planners, shipping clerks, warehouse operators. People who understand how supply lines function because they have spent years keeping them running. Only after a recruit proves that expertise does the faction begin the second education: how to use those same systems as weapons.
The logic is brutally practical. Anyone can learn to swing a blade. Fewer can reroute a cargo ship, redirect a rail shipment, or ensure a supply convoy never arrives. The Adherents target merchants and industrialists who have grown fat on exploitation, those who inflate prices beyond what communities can bear or treat their workers as expendable raw material. But the kill is rarely the first step. Before the knife comes out, the target loses everything. Shipments vanish. Trade contacts dry up. Business partners receive better offers elsewhere. By the time the Adherents act with finality, the merchant baron has already been stripped down to nothing, and the settlement barely notices the absence.
Members dress the part of whatever role they occupy. In the field, that means workman's clothes: sturdy, practical, suited for dockside labor or caravan work. In the drawing rooms of the powerful, it means high-society attire fit for negotiations and gatherings. Each member carries a faction symbol, worn as a tattoo, ring, or pendant, kept hidden from casual view. Shown to a fellow Adherent, it serves as identification. In certain locations, it functions as a key that no amount of coin can buy.
Two principles bind the faction. Every member must be the sharpest tool in the trade: skills and equipment honed to perfection. And every contract accepted is a contract completed. The Adherents do not abandon work half-finished. A merchant marked for ruin will be ruined, no matter how long it takes or how many shipments must be redirected along the way.

Structure

Five families operate beneath the Adherents of Betrayal, each controlling a different artery of wasteland commerce.
The Tidemaker Family commands maritime operations, working the rivers and coastlines where waterborne trade still moves. The Galeworks Family operates in the skies, leveraging airship routes to intercept or redirect cargo above the reach of ground-bound rivals. The Cicof Family specializes in overland transport, controlling the caravan trails and roads that connect settlements across hostile terrain. The Deforce Family takes a different approach entirely, infiltrating workforces from the inside to destabilize operations and turn a target's own laborers against them. The Steele Family runs the railways, controlling the iron veins that carry the heaviest freight across the longest distances.

Public Agenda

The Adherents of Betrayal exist to dismantle those who exploit commerce at the expense of society, using mastery of trade and logistics to strip exploitative merchants and industrialists of their power before ending them permanently.

History

The Adherents of Betrayal formed within Murder Inc around the principle that the best assassins of merchants and industrialists are the people who already understand how commerce works. Unlike most Murder Inc groups that recruit and then train, the Adherents only accept individuals who have already acquired skills in shipping, trade routes, transportation, and large-scale goods management. After recruitment, members learn sabotage and killing techniques.
The faction targets those who profit at the expense of society: monopolists who inflate prices beyond reach, employers who treat workers as disposable objects. The Adherents dismantle these titans of industry by stripping them of everything they have before killing them. Five families operate beneath the faction, each controlling a different artery of wasteland commerce: maritime routes, airship corridors, overland caravans, workforce infiltration, and railway systems. Their hidden symbol, worn as a tattoo, ring, or pendant, serves both as identification and as a key granting access to restricted locations.
