Calli

Whatever the King on the Coast proclaims is law. The people live because he wills it.
Calli clings to the Yucatan coast, one speck of civilization on the irradiated waste. Formerly known as Cancun until the King outlawed the name, the settlement sits among decaying ruins of pre-fall hotels and bars. The city is divided into three feudal baronies ruled by the King's most trusted men. The King enforces an old Aztec code, claiming divine authority. His most visible exercise of that authority is the ritual of heart extraction.
Castle Neon towers twenty stories above the settlement. The Courts serve as the site of sham trials and executions. In Ghetto Lagrima, the Brotherhood of Blood and Chains operates slave storehouses. The Everywhere Else Embassy was created as a compromise for outsider trade. The Hedon Rising rebellion plots to assassinate the King.

History

The King on the Coast rose to power, renaming Cancun to Calli and imposing a feudal system with bastardized Aztec traditions. The ritual of heart extraction became the centerpiece of his control.
