Dread Surgeon
The survivor who goes out alone to check the scrounging fields, the forager who strays a little too far from the group, the guard who steps outside the firelight to investigate a sound. These are the ones the Dread Surgeons are watching. They have been watching for hours.
Dread Surgeons are the quiet horror of the Aberrant Raider subspecies. Where Berserkers charge and Haze Raiders corrode, Dread Surgeons wait. They are patient, calculating predators that stalk the spaces between settlements: the paths, the dark areas, the edges of civilization where help is distant and isolation is easy to find. They do not attack groups. They do not assault fortified positions. They select an individual, follow them with twitchy, head-scanning vigilance, and wait for the moment that individual is alone.
Then they strike. Fast. A Choking Blow silences the victim before a scream can form. An Abduct drags them away from any chance of rescue. And then, in some hidden place away from witnesses, the harvesting begins.
The word "surgeon" is not irony. Dread Surgeons approach killing with clinical precision. Their mutation grants them an obsessive fixation on body parts, treating living victims as raw material to be carved, collected, and repurposed. They understand anatomy. They know where to cut tendons, where to break bones, and how to disable prey efficiently. The violence is not chaotic. It is methodical, prolonged, and purposeful.
The true nightmare is what happens after. The Modified Cannibalism ability, the Autopsy, is a sixty-count killing blow that restores the Dread Surgeon completely and produces new Dread Surgeon spawn from the harvested remains. Every successful kill multiplies the threat. A single Dread Surgeon hunting the outskirts of a settlement can, over time, become a pack. The sixty-count duration is deliberately slow, and that slowness is the only mercy: it creates a window for rescue. If someone hears the struggle. If someone arrives in time.
Their regenerative ability makes them resilient beyond what their lean frames suggest. Severed limbs are reattached. Grievous wounds close. The crude sutures, metal staples, and ragged scars covering their bodies are evidence of this constant cycle of damage and repair, a creature that treats its own flesh with the same dispassionate efficiency it applies to its victims.

Basic Information
Anatomy
The body is a record of its own work. Crude sutures run in uneven lines across the skin, holding together flesh that has been torn open and repaired so many times the original surface is unrecognizable. Metal staples pin together seams where thread would not hold. Ragged scars overlay older scars in a topography of damage and regeneration. Bones may be augmented with metal plates or sharpened fragments, visible at joints where the skin has pulled back from repeated stress.
The frame is lean and surgical rather than hulking. Muscles are present but concentrated for precision and sudden explosive movement rather than sustained brute force. Joints pop and crack with each step, as though the body is constantly being reshaped by the mutations coursing through it. The Infection left these creatures with extraordinary regenerative ability at the cost of visible, ongoing disfigurement.
The mask completes the image: a twisted surgeon's visage assembled from metal plates, cracked goggles, gas masks, and surgical tubes. The hands are the worst part. Fitted with crude surgical implements, rusted scalpels, saws, and sharpened bones, they are the tools of a trade that has nothing to do with healing. Aprons or coats of tattered leather (or, in some documented cases, stitched skin) hang from the torso, stained dark and adorned with hanging pieces of bone and desiccated remains.

Biological Traits
Dread Surgeons carry fewer uses of Raider Rage than any other Raider type, typically only one or two activations. This is not a weakness so much as a reflection of their design: they are ambush predators, not prolonged combatants. If a Dread Surgeon needs Rage more than twice, the hunt has already gone wrong.
Their offensive toolkit is built for disabling and isolating prey. Carver is the signature attack: an enhanced melee strike against immobilized targets that causes paralysis and agony, extends the bleed-out timer to ten minutes, and chains for free. Choking Blow silences a target for five minutes, preventing calls for help. Blinding impairs vision and disables skills and equipment for ten seconds. Mangle cripples limbs. The combination ensures that a victim caught alone is systematically dismantled before the Autopsy begins.
Stealth and Agile Movement provide the concealment and repositioning needed to stalk and ambush. By My Voice Awareness reveals all hidden targets in the area, allowing higher-tier variants to flush out anyone trying to hide. Area of Effect No Escape on Rank 2 variants prevents targets from fleeing the engagement entirely.
The Harvester variant at Rank 2 introduces Aberrant Suffering, a melee strike that prevents the target from using impact skills for thirty seconds. The Harmicist variant adds Delusions (a ranged stun and hallucinate effect) and Pyrokinetics alongside heavy armor and the full Rank 2 suite of High Threat Immunities: immune to Stun, Fear, and Aberrant Damage.
Modified Cannibalism (Autopsy) is the capstone. Sixty-count killing blow that fully restores the Dread Surgeon and produces a new spawn. The timer is the rescue window. Interrupt the count, save the victim. Miss it, and the settlement has two Dread Surgeons to worry about instead of one.

Behaviour
When moving slowly, the Dread Surgeon displays a distinctive twitchy, jerky movement pattern. The head turns side to side in sharp, quick motions, scanning for prey with an intensity that suggests heightened sensory processing. The gait shifts between calculating observation and sudden, precise repositioning. They use Stealth to conceal their approach and Agile Movement to reposition without breaking cover.
The hunting cycle is consistent. Stalk the periphery of a settlement or traveled path. Identify a target. Follow at distance. Wait for isolation. Strike from ambush with speed and precision. Silence the target with a Choking Blow. Drag them away with Abduct. Harvest at leisure in a concealed location.
The obsession with body parts appears to be psychological as well as biological. The mutation drives Dread Surgeons to collect with the fixation of a curator assembling a rare collection. The harvesting is not about sustenance in the way that other predators feed. It is about acquisition, and the result of that acquisition, the Autopsy spawn, suggests a reproductive drive layered beneath the collecting instinct. Whether the Dread Surgeon is aware of this purpose or simply compelled by it is a question no survivor has had the opportunity (or desire) to investigate closely.
