The predecessors of the Genjian were born from experimentations and medical remedies produced here during the Fall. Drugs developed in these territories allowed a handful of generations to attempt to save humanity from extinction. Eastern Asia even achieved limited success reintroducing human colonies around the world using their medical technologies and population preservation techniques.
Then the fungal plague evolved. It adapted specifically to overcome Eastern Asian medical defenses, and this incredibly potent adaptation riddled the region with the deadliest zombies found anywhere in the wastelands. The medical techniques meant to save humanity instead spawned two terrible consequences: the Genjian strain as an unintended byproduct of the drugs and treatments, and the zombie type commonly known as a hunter, born from the same plague adaptation that finally overcame the region's defenses.
