Greenland
One of the last strongholds of actual humanity in the post-fall world. Harsh arctic climate has slowed the spread of the Grave Mind across this territory, but rising global temperatures threaten to end that protection.
The north holds massive Genjian bio-domes at Disko Bay, sealed environments where population is rigorously controlled to match carrying capacity. These domes were built during the Fall by cultural precursors of the Genjian strain, powered by hot springs and filtered by terraforming plants. A cryogenic preservation program called New Hope has begun to fail, releasing warped creatures from suspended animation: the origin point of what became the Semper Mort.
Along the western coast, Natural One whaling and hunting communities built settlements over many generations. Within the past decade, tribes that pushed inland against elder warnings discovered fields of thousands of ancient cryogenic tubes, and the Semper Mort began rising from the glass tombs.
The eastern shores are melting into the sea as temperatures climb. Small Natural One communities rebuild their lives here through traditions that predate the Fall, including a brutal coming-of-age ritual involving sharks.
In the south, a community of sailors, fishmongers, and farmers remained an untouched dreamscape for many generations until the Salt Wise arrived offshore with massive community ships, establishing trade and an offshore colony operating old pre-fall oil platforms.
The cold has kept the Grave Mind at bay. The world is warming. That protection will not last forever.
