Gun Monkey

The jungle primates of the Rum Coast evolved past the point where anyone can call them animals with a straight face. Gun Monkeys possess advanced tool use, pack coordination, and a relationship with firearms that ranges from troubling to terrifying depending on whether you are talking about a standard pack member or an alpha.
Standard Gun Monkeys can pick up a simple firearm and fire it. That alone would make them dangerous. The alphas are the real problem. An alpha can reload a weapon, clear a jam, and communicate ammunition requirements to the rest of the pack through gestures and calls that researchers have not yet deciphered. They scavenge weapons from settlements and cargo shipments, maintaining hidden caches of nearly spent firearms that they cycle through as ammunition runs dry. The pack hunts with a combination of melee aggression and ranged suppression that would be recognizable to any tactician.
They were once confined to the heavy jungle of the Rum Coast, but the species has been spreading. Gun Monkeys stow aboard munitions shipments and cargo vessels, riding the trade routes to new territory. Confirmed sightings have been reported as far north as Old York and as far west as Lost Angels. Every new sighting raises the same question that Rum Coast settlements have been asking for years: the monkeys figured out the guns, and nobody knows what they will figure out next.
