Iron Cross
The Iron Cross is a high-profit mercenary company based at the Church of the Open Hand, a stone building on the southern tip of the Plunge's dry land. Their compound spans nearly two city blocks, connected by scrap metal catwalks and gantries forming a six-sided fortress. The sole street-level entrance passes through the Church's front door, and watchtowers with sniping positions overlook the waterline in every direction. Distinguished by white body armor marked with blood-red crosses on shoulders and torso, the Iron Cross fields some of Old York's most trained and efficient combat units.
The company is organized into specialized divisions: sharpshooters, stealth operatives, shock troops, and high ordinance professionals, each denoted by smaller deep red insignias on their armor. Foot soldiers advance through merit and profit generation. The highest-paid go-between, Darnell Epoc, handles contracts for top clients from the Heights and the Second Ark, having risen from foot soldier to the company's most trusted negotiator. Epoc is known for openly refusing contracts that benefit the Final Knights, a stance that has earned him both respect and enemies within the Iron Cross ranks.
Trade ties with Papaya Firearms and outside gunrunner sources keep the Iron Cross ahead of rival mercenary groups in equipment and munitions. Rumors persist that the company is positioning for eventual control over all of Old York. Pilgrimages sent to establish bases of operation in distant survivor settlements could make them the first continental mercenary network. Tension with the Blue Line coalition has led to rumored border skirmishes away from public eyes, and an open war between the two would devastate the Plunge.
