Lynch Mob
A hundred shamblers moving as one is terrifying enough. A hundred shamblers moving as one because something hidden in the swarm is telling them where to look is something else entirely.
Lynch Mobs are massive undead hordes, never fewer than a hundred strong, that travel in coordinated waves across the wasteland. What separates them from an ordinary shambler migration is the presence of a Lynch Mob Boss buried somewhere within the mass of rotting bodies. The Boss emits rot pheromones that attract undead to its location and bind them into a unified force. Where a normal horde stumbles and scatters, a Lynch Mob moves with purpose. Where a normal horde attacks whatever is closest, a Lynch Mob focuses.
That focus is the killing stroke. When the Boss identifies a target, it deals damage to mark that survivor with Zombie Attractant. For a brief, terrible window, every shambler in the horde turns on the marked individual with enhanced aggression, ignoring all other threats. Companions become invisible. Escape routes close. A hundred dead mouths converge on one living body, and the mathematics of the encounter stop being survivable.
The Boss itself is nearly impossible to locate within the swarm. It looks like any other shambler, hidden in the press of bodies, directing the horde through chemical signals rather than visible leadership. Killing it would scatter the Mob into a disorganized mass, but finding it requires wading through a hundred corpses that are all trying to tear you apart.
Lynch Mobs grow more dangerous over time. As the horde travels, it absorbs larger undead into its numbers, incorporating them into the swarm. What begins as a hundred shamblers can become something far worse if left unchecked. The stench of their passage carries for miles, a warning that survivors who know the smell take very seriously.
