Murk Family
They walk into town looking like any other Graverobber. Quiet, studious, a little odd. They ask questions about the local grave, poke around the cemetery, and take notes nobody else can read. By the time the other families arrive, the Murk have already mapped the threat and drafted the operational plan.
The family serves as the Watch of the Bone Chapel's advance scouts, entering settlements ahead of other families to assess situations and gather intelligence. Their cover as wandering Graverobbers is convincing because it is mostly true. The Murk are scholars of the Mortis Amaranthine with a depth of knowledge that borders on obsessive, and they understand that the grave holds layers most people never encounter.
Their most critical work involves the Beyond, an extradimensional space with the potential to destroy the world entirely. When rifts open between the Mortis Amaranthine and the Beyond, creatures escape that do not belong in any reality survivors understand. The Murk form triage responses: sealing the rift, destroying whatever came through, and wiping any trace of the Beyond from the affected area. They know there are places within the grave that no one should go, and they exist because not everyone shares that conviction.
Initiation is the Edge Dive. Recruits train and then survive multiple dives into the deepest layers of the Mortis Amaranthine. Full membership requires reaching the furthest known boundary of the grave and venturing close to what is called the Sunless Garden. Those who return sane are brought into the fold. Their real training begins only after they have seen how deep the dark goes.

Structure
The Murk Family operates within the Watch of the Bone Chapel faction of Murder Inc, composed of Graverobbers and scholars who specialize in the Mortis Amaranthine and the threat of the Beyond. Members arrive in settlements ahead of other families, passing as wandering Graverobbers to avoid suspicion while they assess situations and gather intelligence. When breaches from the Beyond are detected, the Murk form triage responses to seal rifts and destroy escaped creatures. Full membership requires surviving The Edge Dive: multiple descents into the deepest layers of the Mortis Amaranthine, culminating in reaching the furthest known edge near The Sunless Garden.
Public Agenda
The Murk Family exists to contain threats from the Beyond and the deepest layers of the Mortis Amaranthine. Their mission is to serve as advance scouts for Murder Inc operations, assess threats within the grave, seal rifts between the Mortis and the Beyond, and destroy any creatures that escape into the mortal world. Understanding the Mortis Amaranthine is their lifelong commitment, and their purpose is to ensure that the things lurking at its edges stay where they are.
History
The Murk Family established itself as Murder Inc's advance scouts and specialists in threats from the Beyond, an extradimensional space with the potential to destroy the world entirely. Their deep knowledge of the Mortis Amaranthine and its functions gave them a unique capability: where other families dealt with threats in the living world, the Murk operated in the spaces between life and death, sealing rifts and eliminating creatures that should never have escaped.
The family built its operational model around intelligence gathering and rapid response. Operatives enter settlements disguised as wandering Graverobbers, creating operational plans before other families arrive. When the Beyond breaches into the mortal world, the Murk are the first response: they seal the wound, destroy what escaped, and wipe any trace of the Beyond from the affected area. Their initiation, requiring survival of deep dives to the edge of The Sunless Garden, ensures that every full member has personally experienced the furthest known boundary of the grave.
