Scrap Palace El Castillo de Chatarra
The Scrap Palace is the Prideland Cartel's headquarters in the northern portion of Sinking City, occupying four former city blocks. Unlike other castillos in the area that were renovated from pre-fall buildings, the Scrap Palace was built from the ground up from the most vicious-looking scrap available. A wall of welded trash encircles the compound, decorated with the impaled bodies of infiltrators who were catapulted against its inner face and left hanging like ornaments. The bailey wall is made of scrap and people juices.
Inside the wall, the buildings are so small and close together they look like lean-tos made of garbage. Visiting gang members stay in trash teepees. The Cartel is better known for influence than money, which explains the eyesore. But at the compound's center stands a five-story keep of imposing blackened iron and wood where the leadership resides, and beside it, a two-story armory complex housing a cache of weapons and armor rarely seen elsewhere. Atop the armory sits an artillery gun designed by a Cartel engineer through misdealings with the Fuegos. It can fire mortar shells clean over the scrap wall. It has only been test-fired once.
The Scrap Palace makes no pretense of beauty or permanence. It is a fortress built by people who understand that power in the Pridelands comes from fear and the willingness to use it. If the artillery gun were ever fired in anger, a mile around the Palace would be devastated. That it has not been fired again is the closest thing the Cartel offers to diplomacy.
