Servants of Rot

Even among the Final Knights, the Servants of Rot are considered to have gone too far. Where the broader faith treats suffering as a forge for personal strength, the Servants look at the Gravemind and see something far more ambitious: a congregation of enlightened souls trapped in rotting flesh, waiting to be led.
Their theology begins with a question the rest of the wasteland prefers not to ask. When the Fall killed hundreds of thousands in a span too short for any god to process, where did those souls go? The Servants believe they know. Those souls became trapped on Earth, their psyches imprisoned within the undead mass, and in that imprisonment they achieved a form of enlightenment through suffering. The voices heard by the dying, the echoing screams and desperate pleas that accompany near-death experiences, are not hallucinations or minor telepathic bleed from the Infection's hive mind. They are the voices of the enlightened, crying out from within their cage of pressed and rotting flesh.
The Servants' ultimate goal is to merge with the Gravemind and take control of it. To prepare, they feed weak-willed living people to the tendrils of the undead mass, diluting its spiritual resistance. Each sacrifice weakens the collective will, making the Gravemind more vulnerable to domination by a single strong mind. When that moment comes, the Servant who achieves the merger will become a weapon more powerful than the controlling gods of old. The massive undulating sections of flesh that pierce from the ground, wrapping into tendrils of rot surrounded by dense concentrations of undead, are not horrors to the Servants. They are holy sites. Pilgrimage destinations. The future.
