Silent Keepers

Sub-sect of Nuclear Family

The Silent Keepers bear a solemn responsibility that most members of the Nuclear Family would rather not think about. They are the faith's stewards of death and remembrance, tasked with preserving the Family's legacy at its most fragile points: when members die, when they disappear, and when they fall to the scourge of Bad Brain and become Raiders. The Silent Keepers search for lost families to record their final fate, hunt down those who have strayed beyond redemption, and oversee the rites that guide departed spirits back to the Founders.
Each Silent Keeper family is led by a Mortis Practitioner, whose knowledge of the wasteland's spiritual and physical challenges anchors the group. These small Family Units work in unison, blending somber ritual with practical action. They carry the symbols of every family they have served, etched or painted onto garments and tools, creating a living archive of the Nuclear Family's interconnected legacy. No family's story is forgotten. No member's contributions are lost to time, even when their path faltered.
The Silent Keepers' most difficult duty is confronting Family members who have turned Raider or abandoned the faith. These encounters are approached with solemnity and a final offer of mercy through death, guiding wayward spirits back to the Founders. It is both a burden and a sacred trust, carried out with the utmost discretion and the weight of generations behind it.

History

The Silent Keepers formed within the Nuclear Family from those who accepted the solemn duty of stewarding the faith's relationship with death and remembrance. Led by Mortis Practitioners, they organized into small Family Units dedicated to overseeing final rites, tracking down lost members, and confronting those who had fallen beyond redemption. Their practice of carrying the symbols of every family they served transformed them into living archives, ensuring that the Nuclear Family's legacy persisted even at its most painful boundaries.
