Tappin' Zed Bridge

Well north of Old York, a massive cement and steel span arches over the swollen river, half of it fallen into the water below. The Tappin' Zed Bridge is what remains of a pre-fall highway crossing, its rusted suspension cables still reaching from the eastern banks even as whole sections sit submerged in the current. Roughly scrapped-together paths and cable guides allow passage across, but the crossing is dangerous by any measure.

The Only Crossing

Despite its condition, the Tappin' Zed Bridge is the only safe portage across the river outside of Old York proper. Caravans that cannot or will not pass through the city's gang-controlled waterways have no choice but to risk the bridge. Small bunkers on either end provide shelter during raider attacks, but the structures are crude and offer limited protection.

Raiders and Isolation

The bridge is a popular target for Slipshine and Head-Hunter raider clans that descend from the surrounding foothills. The Blue Line attempted to establish a permanent dispatch station on the northwestern approach, but limited radio range and the remoteness of the location prevented them from maintaining a sustained presence. Without consistent law enforcement, the bridge belongs to whoever holds it at any given hour.
Half a bridge is better than a week's detour, and so the caravans keep coming, gambling that the patched paths will hold and the raiders will be elsewhere. Some days they are right.
