The Crystal Hole
Between Vegasia and the west coast there is a stretch of desert that exists primarily to kill people who try to cross it. The heat is relentless, water is nonexistent for miles at a stretch, and the terrain offers nothing in the way of shelter or navigation landmarks. Most travelers go around it. The ones who go through it are either lost, desperate, or looking for the Crystal Hole. The first two categories rarely survive. The third category survives slightly more often, which is not the same as saying they come back intact.
The cavern opens somewhere in the heart of that desert, and inside it the world changes. Psionic Crystals fill the space in numbers that defy easy estimation: thousands, possibly millions, all carrying a faint greenish hue that gives the cave walls the appearance of something alive and watching. The air feels different inside. The line between life and death, always thin in the wasteland but generally identifiable, blurs to nothing within the Crystal Hole. Aberrants who enter experience visions: fragments of memory, imprints of people long dead, information that should be inaccessible reaching through the crystal medium with clarity that cuts through everything else. Some of those visions are coherent. Some are useful. Some drive the Aberrant receiving them completely and irreversibly mad.
The crystals are rumored to hold imprints and memories spanning decades, a library of the dead encoded in mineral and light. The temptation is obvious. The cost is equally so. Every attempt to access that information, to pull knowledge from the crystals in any deliberate way, triggers undead surges in the surrounding region that last a month or longer. The desert, already hostile enough to kill the unprepared, fills with the dead. The settlements within range of the surges pay the price for someone else's curiosity. The Crystal Hole offers answers to questions that might reshape the wasteland's understanding of death, psionics, and the nature of memory itself. It simply demands that someone else suffer for every answer it gives.

Purpose / Function
The Crystal Hole serves no constructed purpose. It is a natural cavern containing Psionic Crystals in quantities that defy estimation, carrying imprints and memories spanning decades. Aberrants who enter experience visions: fragments of memory, imprints of the dead, information that should be inaccessible. The crystals function as a library of the dead encoded in mineral and light. Some researchers believe the knowledge within could reshape the wasteland's understanding of death, psionics, and the nature of memory itself.
Design
A natural cavern opening in the heart of the desert. Inside, thousands or possibly millions of Psionic Crystals fill the space, each carrying a faint greenish hue that gives the cave walls the appearance of something alive and watching. The crystals are not arranged or constructed; they exist as a natural formation that happens to contain properties no one has been able to replicate or fully explain.
Sensory & Appearance
The air changes the moment you enter. The faint greenish hue of the Psionic Crystals coats the cave walls, casting everything in a light that feels more alive than illumination should. The temperature drops from the desert heat outside to something cool and still. The crystals carry a presence that registers before the eyes adjust: the sense of being watched by something that does not have a face. For Aberrants, the experience intensifies into visions, fragments of memory and knowledge pressing through the crystal medium with a clarity that cuts through everything else.
