The Great Archive
Beneath the ruins of a pre-fall museum in Undersea on the Rust Coast lies a massive reinforced vault that survived the Fall largely intact. The Great Archive, as it has come to be known, was uncovered by Lascarian and Retrograde devotees of the Sainthood of Ashes, who used their knowledge of underground spaces and their resistance to caustic environments to breach the sealed chambers.
A vault that survived the end of the world, still mostly sealed, still mostly unknown. The Great Archive holds its secrets close, and gives them up one room at a time.
Glimpses of the Ancient Past
The vault remains mostly sealed. The portions that have been opened reveal pre-fall artifacts and fragments of knowledge that hint at a history far older and stranger than most wastelanders imagine. Sainthood sages have established research facilities at the site, turning the Archive into a hub for scholarly activity across the Rust Coast. The work is painstaking; every unsealed section must be cataloged, preserved, and interpreted before the next can be attempted.Pilgrimage
The Great Archive stands alongside the Yard in Baytowne as one of the two great pilgrimage destinations for scholars of the Sainthood of Ashes. Pilgrims walk across the wastes to reach a door they can barely open, driven by the belief that what lies inside is worth any journey. The Lascarian and Retrograde communities who helped uncover the vault continue to support the site, providing the specialized labor and environmental knowledge that the Sainthood scholars lack.A vault that survived the end of the world, still mostly sealed, still mostly unknown.
