Wailing Shores
The eastern seaboard was never safe, but the Wailing Shores earned their name from the sounds that carry across the water after dark. The coastline stretches from the ruins of old Connecticut through New Jersey, Rhode Island, and the shattered edges of New York, where the ocean meets a continent that the Infection has claimed as thoroughly as the land.
What makes the Shores dangerous is not the coast itself but what lies beneath the surface offshore. The Flesh Floor, a gelatinous mass of knitted corpse flesh hundreds of miles wide, lurks on the sea floor. In autumn, seasonal currents draw pieces of it close enough to shore that Mass Graves break free and wash up with the tides. Settlements along this stretch of coast have learned to prepare for the season the way the old world prepared for hurricanes: board the windows, stock the supplies, and hope this year is quieter than the last.
