Bruce Thompson
Bruce Thompson served as Mayor of Steel City during the Ironworks era, the northernmost bastion of the Ironworks' reach into Reclaimer territory. A Reclaimer by Strain, his appointment was a political gesture to the local population, but Thompson was firmly in the pocket of the Chancellor and the Ironworks establishment. He actively worked against northern Reclaimer interests, warning his city against the "renegade" settlements of Can Do and Lakehead and publicly disparaging the northern territories he called "Canuckistan."
A gangly fellow with hair that refused to stay out of guileless-seeming blue eyes, Thompson preferred suits based on pre-Fall designs with overly long sleeves to hide his distinctive Reclaimer markings. The disguise fooled no one. Whether he was playing at innocence or genuinely naive remained an open question, but the effect was the same: a Reclaimer who hid his own people's marks and used his position to keep them under Ironworks control.
Monty Mackenzie of the Sleeping Giant wanted Thompson's head on a pike. The hatred seemed personal, though no one could determine its specific origin. For the Reclaimers of Steel City, Thompson represented the worst kind of collaborator: someone who looked like them, carried the same marks, and used the authority that proximity to power granted to ensure they stayed in chains.

Personal history
Thompson rose to the mayoralty of Steel City through political appointment rather than popular mandate. The Chancellor placed a Reclaimer in the position to pacify the local population, and Thompson proved a willing instrument of that strategy. He publicly opposed the northern Reclaimer settlements that represented his own people's freedom, warned against Can Do Station and Lakehead, and maintained the Ironworks' hold on the northernmost city in the empire. His relationship with Monty Mackenzie was adversarial in a way that went beyond politics; Mackenzie's desire to see Thompson killed appeared rooted in something personal that neither man would explain.
