Flesh Farmers
You smell Wormsloe Plantation before you see it, and what you smell is misery. The Flesh Farmers are a slave-trading organization based at the plantation near Skidaway Harbor, founded by Jeremiah Walker and sustained by a business model that treats human beings as livestock to be bred, trained, and sold.
Walker started as a Merican farmer who recognized that people were a more profitable crop than anything that grew in soil. He began collecting slaves, training them as field hands, and then expanded into breeding different strains for different purposes. The name Flesh Farmers started as an outsider's joke about the operation; it stuck because it was accurate. Slaves are bred from birth, trained for service, and sold to farms for seasonal labor, to Pure Blood households, and to the Drowned City. Disobedient stock is sold to Full Dead and Semper Mort traders for consumption.
The Farmers are mainly Mericans, never seen without ropes and handcuffs at the ready, whips at their belts and guns at their sides. They are quick to dismiss anyone who threatens the trade, and the dismissal is permanent. Rumors of a slave escape route circulate in the surrounding settlements, but the Flesh Farmers suppress any such talk as aggressively as they suppress the slaves themselves.
