Nathan Eisenhower
Nathan Eisenhower runs Nate's Diner, a vintage-styled establishment adjacent to the Brokeland Bowl bowling alley in northern Brooklyn, and he runs it the way he runs his family: with a stubborn commitment to the idea that comfort and decency can exist in the Brokelands if someone cares enough to maintain them. As patriarch of the local Nuclear Family gang, he hosts weekly neighborhood watch meetings at the diner where Family members in vintage suits and dresses discuss scout reports, supply levels, and the growing threat from the Williamspoint Red Star commune over meals.
The problem is that his moderate approach satisfies nobody. The commune to the north needs Brokeland Bowl's territory to complete its Zombie Facade Zone perimeter, and their negotiators have been met with violence from Family members who see any discussion as surrender. The Family is fracturing: one faction wants to abandon the settlement entirely, another demands a preemptive strike against Williamspoint, and Eisenhower sits between them arguing for patience. He believes the Family has superior firepower. He also knows they are outnumbered.
His dream of Brokeland Bowl as a haven of pre-fall comfort grows more distant with each argument around the diner tables. The bowling lanes still work. The burgers are still hot. And the walls outside still shudder when something large and dead walks past. Eisenhower keeps the meetings running because the alternative is admitting that the moderate path has run out of road.
