Brokeland Bowl

The bowling lanes still work. That is the first thing anyone notices about Brokeland Bowl, and it is the detail that tends to stay with them longest. In the middle of the Brokelands, where every other building is rubble or a deathtrap or both, a Nuclear Family gang has restored a pre-fall bowling alley and diner to a meticulous 1950s aesthetic. The pins reset. The jukebox plays. Nate's Diner serves rat-dog burgers and whatever else the kitchen can scrape together. It is a pocket of nostalgia surrounded by warzone, and the contrast is jarring enough to feel almost sacred.
Nathan Eisenhower runs the settlement as family patriarch, hosting weekly neighborhood watch meetings at the diner and striving to maintain Brokeland Bowl as neutral ground. A place of vintage comforts and relative safety in a district where neither commodity lasts long. The Family has formidable weaponry, and they believe they have the firepower advantage over their neighbors. Whether that belief will hold is the question keeping everyone awake.
The problem is Williamspoint. The Red Star commune to the north needs the territory south of its borders to complete its Zombie Facade Zone defensive perimeter, and Brokeland Bowl sits directly in the way. Negotiations have been met with violence and threats of exile. The Family is fracturing: some want to fight for their home, some want to pull up stakes and flee, and Nathan Eisenhower is trying to hold the middle ground between them. A place that survived the apocalypse by pretending it never happened is now forced to confront the fact that the wasteland does not respect nostalgia.

History

A Nuclear Family gang claimed and restored a pre-fall bowling alley and diner complex in northern Brooklyn, on the border of old Williamsburg and Greenpoint. They recreated it with meticulous attention to a 1950s aesthetic, from the lane machinery to the diner booths to the chrome fittings. In the Brokelands, where most construction involves scrap barricades and improvised shelters, the effort borders on the obsessive.
The settlement's current crisis centers on Williamspoint, the expanding Red Star commune to the north. The commune's Zombie Facade Zone, a perimeter of captured undead designed to disguise the settlement's existence, requires expansion to the south. That expansion would engulf Brokeland Bowl. The Family's attempts at negotiation have failed. Painful arguments now divide the settlement between those who want to fight with their superior firepower, those who want to abandon the site, and those seeking a moderate path forward. Nathan Eisenhower strives for the moderate approach, but the pressure is mounting from both sides of the dispute.
