Sisters of Sorrow
The Sisters of Sorrow (also called the Sorrowful Sisters) are a society of men and women who operate the Heart Break Hotel outside Vegas proper. Their work is simple and terrible: they tend to every want of the Hotel's broken guests, no matter how demeaning or abusive it may be to the Sisters themselves, and they shepherd those guests through their final days.
Before administering the final mixture of sedative and poison, the Sisters ensure each guest has completely surrendered to misery. This is not cruelty but protocol. The Heart Break Hotel exists for those who have given up, and the Sisters' role is to confirm that the giving-up is genuine and total. On rare occasions, a guest finds something unexpected in their despair. Not comfort, exactly, but revelation. These individuals are not given the poison. They receive a sedative instead and are shipped to the Black Pyramid, where they are dedicated to the Final Knights. Most guests find the mercy of death. A rare few find something far more demanding.
