The Radiant Blight

The forest glows like emerald fire. The air hums with a warmth that settles into the bones, and the ground breathes faintly with spore mist that catches the light like scattered glass. Everything in the zone is growing. Moss climbs the walls in luminous sheets. Fungi pulse with bioluminescent rhythm. Vines so thick they seem alive weave through windows and doorways with quiet, patient intent. It is, by any measure, beautiful. And that is exactly the problem.
The Radiant Blight is what happens when the Infection thrives too well. Where the Omni Plague represents the Infection's death, the Radiant Blight represents its unchecked triumph: a region's verdant growth supercharged by Glow Shroom spores, solar radiation, or residual necrological energy until the ecosystem blooms past equilibrium into suffocating abundance. The spores saturate the air, forming a persistent bioluminescent haze that clings to surfaces and living tissue. Within minutes of exposure, muscles loosen, thoughts drift, and breathing slows. The glow from the plants reflects faintly in the eyes, giving a soft emerald sheen. Within an hour, coordination falters and emotional attachment fades to quiet indifference. The Radiant Blight does not kill through violence, infection, or pain. It kills by convincing everything living that it is safe to stop trying.
The mechanical progression strips capability with surgical precision. At Stage 1, Resolve cannot be willingly spent. The most powerful resource in the game is locked away behind a wall of artificial calm. At Stage 2, all defensive skills are gone: no Avoid, no Balance, no Mental Endurance. The afflicted stands exposed to every incoming threat and feels nothing about it. Stage 3 brings euphoria, golden-dusted skin from adhering spores, and the loss of Impact skill refresh. By Stage 4, the calm becomes unbreakable. The afflicted cannot run, cannot yell, cannot act emotionally, cannot use any skills. Without someone physically coaxing them to move, they will simply remain where they are, sessile and serene, until the Blight finishes its work. Stage 5 is terminal. The afflicted lies still, eyes open and faintly glowing, expression calm. The body will not rot, burn, or reanimate. Vines slowly weave over the corpse like a second skin, and the vegetation consumes what remains.
The zone itself stretches for miles, appearing with terrifying speed. Entire settlements have woken to find their homes dusted golden and vines climbing through windows. Within the boundaries, Zombies move languidly but without hindrance, their decaying flesh dusted gold with spores and luminous green from fungal overgrowth. When their Rise Again activates, the resurgent Infection releases a burst of sedative spores that knocks everyone nearby unconscious. Ragers and Bursters are rarely found inside a Radiant Blight; even the violent dead move slowly here. Natural Born Raiders die within minutes, their systems collapsing as the spores overwhelm them. Critters display unnatural calm, occasionally lying down and allowing the overgrowth to claim them.
Recovery outside the zone is relatively fast: one stage per two hours. But dying while still affected, even outside the zone, converts the Radiant Blight into an equivalent stage of Grave Bloom and risks contaminating the nearest Morgue with a Glow-Shroom bloom. The solutions to a Radiant Blight scenario are as dangerous as the Blight itself, often involving large-scale application of radiation or toxic chemicals to break the self-sustaining Glow-Shroom mycorrhizal network. These attempts are complicated by the effects of the disease on those trying to implement them. It becomes a race: find a solution, abandon the area, or slowly surrender to a world that no longer needs you. Settlements do not fall to the Radiant Blight in fire and screaming. They simply stop.
The Infection thriving beyond all control. A suffocating abundance of fungal overgrowth that suppresses higher brain function through psychotropic spores. Beautiful, peaceful, terminal. The opposite of the Omni Plague.
