The Rim

The Rim is the only real habitable piece of civilization in I-Die-Low, a long strip of farms stretching one after another along the Overgrowth border where crops blend with leafy green trees and grass. The soil here is the richest in the region, and it belongs to Nuclear Family followers organized into tightly-knit family farming units that protect one another with the fierce loyalty of people who know help is miles away.
Each family rotates one member into the Rim Watch monthly, the patrol that walks the border between farmland and jungle. When the Watch kills a creature, the closest families gather to butcher the carcass and share the meat in celebration. When someone moves in with another family, a hunting feast is held. These small rituals mark the rhythm of life on the Rim: farm, defend, celebrate, repeat.
The threats are daily. Plants from the Overgrowth creep onto the farmlands and must be cut back before they take root. Monsters from the nearby forests wander onto cleared land seeking food and water. The farms are spread far apart, and if trouble strikes, the nearest help is miles away at best. The Meloy Clan and other Rovers come to the Rim to trade food for permanent goods picked up elsewhere in I-Die-Low and Mountaina, providing the only reliable connection to the wider world. Rich soil on borrowed time; the jungle wants it back and the storms want it gone.
