The Rising Tide
The Rising Tide began with one stolen ship and one fugitive who had punched a Pure Blood.
Captain Roberts fled the Kingdom with a handful of Salt Wise and Bay Walkers who shared the same grievance: a lifetime of watching the Royals treat every other strain as furniture. They found an island near the Keys, a place that had become a haven for those escaping the Rat King's justice. The island's residents were a sorry collection of thieves, cutthroats, and drunken castaways with nothing left to lose. Roberts looked at them and saw a crew.
Roberts turned the outcasts into sailors. They began raiding the Kingdom's ships along the coast, stealing valuables and capturing vessels. One ship became two, then a ragtag fleet. The Rising Tide became one of the most persistent nuisances in the Rat King's domain, and Roberts became one of the most wanted fugitives in the region. The pirate captain's hat sprouted feathers from every Pure Blood they robbed.
When the Rat King allied with the Iron Works, the Rising Tide seized the opportunity to escalate from piracy to warfare. Roberts allied the fleet with the Rusty Lanterns and Captain Vincent Douglas's Conch Battalion, joining the New Kingdom coalition. Rising Tide sailors met with guild members and black market contacts in allied settlements, coordinating intelligence operations and shadier aspects of the campaign. During the final preparations for the Regicide plot, Roberts joined the Dim Lantern and First Mate Sathrik to rally the settlement chosen for the diversionary rebellion.
What the Rising Tide would become once the common enemy was gone remained an open question. A force for good, for chaos, or for something else entirely. Roberts never promised anything beyond the fight at hand.
