The Yard

Behind weathered stone buildings, raised battlements, and reinforced floodwalls, the Yard preserves what may be the greatest repository of pre-fall knowledge in the Nor'East. This former university complex in Baytowne survived the rising waters only because the first survivors raced against time to build floodwalls and seal the outer buildings before the ocean could claim the halls of learning within. Their gamble paid off. Acres of books, rewritten and preserved by generations of residents, fill the sheltered wings.
 

Center of Scholarship

Open green quads sit between the stone buildings, and a major Sainthood of Ashes shrine has been raised in one of the old school's courtyards. Entire wings have been converted for scientific study and practical experimentation. Sainthood scholars translate books written in ancient foreign tongues and draft new references for the post-apocalyptic world. A young priest named Isaac Winsor is compiling a master ledger recording every book and relic in the Yard, and his knowledge of the Sea-bridge tunnel connections beneath the complex is unparalleled.
 

Guardians and Pilgrims

The Johns guard the Yard with lanterns and maces, their distinctive silhouettes visible on the battlements day and night. The complex is open to researchers and pilgrims of most faiths, making it a rare neutral ground in a region defined by factional violence. Sainthood scholars regularly make the journey here as a pilgrimage, choosing the Yard as their end destination alongside the Great Archive on the Rust Coast.
  Nathaniel Carmichael himself studied with the sages of the Yard before founding the Lamplighters, and the knowledge he gained here formed the basis of the settler's guide used across the wastes. The Yard is a university that survived the end of the world, and it is still teaching those willing to learn.
