Blare Phagous Artisans

Behind the false front of a clinic, a butchery, or a quiet tavern at the edge of a settlement, the Blare Phagous Artisans keep their workshops. The rooms are clean. The instruments are precise. The subjects strapped to the tables are alive, chosen carefully by Strain-specific traits, and they will remain alive for as long as the extraction process requires. Which is to say: until there is nothing left to extract.
The Artisans are biological matter refinement specialists. They process harvested Infection, organs, and tissues from Lineages into potent drugs, stimulants, and elite consumables that command enormous prices in the right markets. Strain-specific brains grant heightened psionic clarity. Organs stimulate immense strength and endurance at the cost of devastating addiction. Bone marrow and spinal fluids, combined with raw Infection, provide recovery compounds for those whose bodies can no longer heal through normal means.
The products are powerful, rare, and highly addictive. The process of creating them is monstrous. Captive Lineages are held through psionic commands, medical restraint, and Necrology surgery. The extraction is systematic and extended, drawing out tissue and fluids over days or weeks. Each captive is a resource to be managed, not a person to be considered. When the subject is finally consumed by the process, the Artisans move to the next.
Small cells operate under individual Artisans, each overseeing skilled assistants who understand the chemistry and the butchery in equal measure. The cells share techniques, resources, and warnings through a loose network, but each operates independently behind its false front. Trusted couriers handle distribution. The Artisans themselves remain hidden.
The Arbiters of the Bond and the majority of the Ossuary Society have ordered the Blare Phagous Artisans killed on sight. This has not stopped them. The demand for their products ensures a steady supply of clients willing to pay enough to justify the risk, and the settlements that harbor them, knowingly or otherwise, rarely ask what happens in the back rooms.
In Stack City the Blare Phagous is no hidden cell but a ruling institution, one of the powers behind the Board of Representatives, and it decides what becomes of the city's dead. It runs the largest and steadiest pipeline of necrological stock, Infection byproducts, and biological assets in Aysea, and it operates the Slowboat market from the sales floor down. Corpus Delicti handlers oversee the higher-grade biological stock while the Artisans move refined compounds and doctored consumables through quieter routes, among them Crystal Candy, an addictive product that glints almost cheerfully while it hollows out its buyers. Beneath the floor sit injection rooms, VIP rooms where Infection is sold outright, and the deep Morgue and Mortis Amaranthine stations where the most lucrative extraction happens behind locked doors.
The Blare Phagous also holds the Stack's morgues, running them not to receive the dead but to receive raw stock, cataloging and dismantling bodies into usable matter, a grip that enrages the Ossuary Society and the many who have lost family to the Mortis Amaranthine. Its Artisans develop treatments and cures as well, effective but priced and distributed as leverage, and persistent rumors hold that some outbreaks are controlled releases meant to sell remedies already waiting.

Structure

The Blare Phagous Artisans operate in small cells, each led by an individual Artisan with a team of skilled assistants. Workshops are hidden within settlements or isolated locations, disguised as clinics, butcheries, or taverns to avoid detection. The cells form a loose network that shares techniques, resources, and warnings through trusted couriers. Members hide their identities at all times, and no centralized leadership structure is visible to outsiders. This cell-based model ensures that the capture or destruction of one workshop does not compromise the rest of the network.

Public Agenda

The Artisans exist to refine biological matter from Lineages into products that command premium prices on the black market. Their specialties include brain tissue and bone marrow refinement, regenerative compounds that reintroduce Infection for those who cannot recover normally, elite consumables sold to criminal networks, and cultivated biological weapons with no common cures. Every product they sell was once extracted from a living or recently living person, and their captive extraction labs represent the most reviled practice in the Dead Market.

History

The Blare Phagous Artisans emerged within The Dead Market pillar of the Black Market as specialists in biological matter refinement. They developed techniques for processing harvested Infection, organs, and tissues from Lineages into powerful drugs, stimulants, and elite consumables. Their methods grew increasingly extreme, progressing from scavenged materials to maintaining captive Lineages in hidden workshops, systematically extracting tissue until subjects are consumed by the process.
Their practices drew the attention of the Arbiters of the Bond and the majority of the Ossuary Society, both of which issued kill-on-sight orders against the Artisans. Despite this condemnation from two of the wasteland's most powerful institutions, the organization continues to operate through secrecy, disguised facilities, and the sheer profitability of their products among elite criminal networks.
In Stack City the Blare Phagous outgrew the model of hidden cells entirely. There it stands as a dominant institution and a seat behind the Board of Representatives, controlling the flow of the city's dead through its morgues and running the Slowboat as a necrological market with hidden processing tiers. Its Artisans supply the Stack's selectively distributed medicines and its addictive consumables, Crystal Candy among them, turning the refinement of bodies into one of the northern territory's load-bearing industries.
