They work with experienced doctors and scientists both within and outside the faith, united by a single focus: documenting and researching the Infection that courses through every Strain's body and the source of the undead threat. The work is dangerous, unpleasant, and conducted in the space between medicine and theology where most sensible people refuse to tread.
They are identifiable by their long beaked masks, stuffed with perfume-soaked fabric and herbs to cover the stench of the materials they handle. The aesthetic is not accidental; it marks them as practitioners of a discipline that requires proximity to things most survivors prefer to keep at a distance.
The Doctors developed the foundational theory that the infection limits of individual Strains are not hard ceilings but natural standards achieved through evolution.
