Gorger
Flesh-consuming survivors driven by biological imperative, products of starvation-driven evolution
The wasteland did not just burn. It starved. Food sources collapsed, herds perished, and the survivors who remained found themselves clawing for sustenance in a world that had none to spare. In the deepest pits of that desperation, The Infection found a way forward: it reshaped certain populations to feed on what remained. The Gorgers emerged from this crucible, driven by a singular biological imperative that cannot be negotiated, reasoned with, or overcome. They must consume the flesh, blood, and organs of others, extracting the Infection-rich nutrients their bodies require to survive.
This is not appetite. It is necessity. The Gorger metabolism has been optimized across generations for extracting and processing Infection-laden nutrients from the tissues of other Strains, processing what would be toxic or useless to other Lineages into the sustenance that keeps them functional. Their bodies bear the marks of this adaptation: light-sensitive eyes shaped by generations of scavenging in shadow, pallid skin from prolonged avoidance of direct sunlight, enlarged stomachs, altered lung structures, and circulatory systems rebuilt to sustain their hunger. They are, from the inside out, purpose-built for a form of survival that most of the wasteland finds horrifying.
The three Strains arrived at this Lineage through strikingly different paths. Full Dead are sentient beings reconstituted from the Mortis Amaranthine, often formed from amalgamations of multiple biomasses drawn from exceptionally large burial sites. Semper Mort were reanimated from cryogenic preservation facilities, the Infection seizing upon preserved bodies as ready hosts. Lascarians are the living Strain, Evolved in subterranean environments devoid of light, where the imperatives of hunger drove a different but parallel adaptation. Despite these distinct origins, all three share the same inescapable need to feed.
Gorger society, such as it exists, is built on pragmatism. Efficiency and results outweigh sentimentality. Trust is scarce; their interactions with other Lineages are saturated with mistrust and unease, and even attempts to integrate into settlements are met with suspicion. Some Gorgers embrace what they are, viewing themselves as the wasteland's ultimate survivors. Others carry the weight of their instincts like a burden, yearning to be recognized as something more than the monsters others perceive.
Each day is a reckoning with the hunger that shapes their existence. The Gorgers persist on the margins, simultaneously feared and relied upon, embodying the wasteland's most brutal lesson: that surviving sometimes requires a price most are unwilling to pay.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Infection's role in this restructuring cannot be separated from the anatomy itself. In Full Dead, the Mortis Amaranthine reconstituted deceased biomass into sentient, functioning bodies dependent on regular feeding to stave off decay. In Semper Mort, the Infection seized upon cryogenically preserved tissues. In Lascarians, living biology was reshaped through evolutionary pressure in lightless underground environments. Each pathway produced a different anatomical profile, but all converge on the same essential design: a body built to consume what others cannot, processing the Infection as sustenance rather than threat.
Biological Traits
Beyond these shared traits, individual variation between the three Strains is dramatic. Full Dead carry the visible marks of reconstitution from the Mortis Amaranthine. Semper Mort bear traces of their cryogenic origins. Lascarians, the living Strain, show the adaptations of subterranean existence. What unites them physically is the biological machinery of hunger: bodies rebuilt at every level for the consumption and processing of Infection-laden flesh.
Genetics and Reproduction
The three Strains represent fundamentally different mechanisms of origin. Full Dead arose through the Mortis Amaranthine's reconstitution of deceased biomass near large burial sites. Semper Mort emerged from the Infection's reanimation of cryogenically preserved bodies. Lascarians evolved as a living population in subterranean environments. Despite these divergent pathways, the metabolic adaptation that defines the Gorger, the ability and necessity to feed on Infection-rich flesh, is the genetic constant that binds all three.

History
The earliest Gorgers included the reanimated dead. Full Dead were reconstituted by the Mortis Amaranthine from the biomass of exceptionally large burial sites, sentient beings formed from the remains of others. Semper Mort emerged when the Infection reached cryogenic preservation facilities, reanimating bodies that had been frozen against a future that never arrived as planned. Later, the Lascarian Strain evolved as a living population in underground environments, where the pressures of darkness and scarcity drove a parallel but distinct adaptation toward flesh consumption.
Today, Gorgers occupy the fringes of wasteland society. Their hunger makes them formidable in ways that other Lineages cannot match, but it also ensures they are never fully accepted. The tension between instinct and identity defines their existence: a constant negotiation between what their biology demands and what they wish to be. Some find a measure of peace within communities that understand the necessity of their nature. Others exist in isolation, carrying the weight of a hunger that never fully relents.
