Monty Mackenzie

Monty Mackenzie is the head of the Sleeping Giant, the growing revolutionary movement dedicated to freeing Homeland from Ironworks control. Based in Lakehead, he is a tall, broad man never seen without his distinctive bright red coat, with bright blue eyes and a friendly smile that vanishes the instant the Ironworks is mentioned. What replaces it is cold, implacable fury.
Mackenzie lost friends during the Merican incursions into the north and most of his family in the Tohr plague, which he blamed squarely on the Ironworks. That grief calcified into a determination that would not rest until Tohr was retaken and retribution visited on the southern enemy. He sends quiet messengers to Reclaimer settlements across Homeland, makes overtures to Natural One tribes for support, and coordinates plans to retake Steel City through the network of allies he has spent years building.
His particular hatred of Bruce Thompson, the Mayor of Steel City, is personal in a way that no one has been able to explain. Mackenzie wants Thompson's head on a pike, and the intensity suggests something beyond political opposition. The bright red coat makes him a walking target and a walking symbol, visible from any distance, impossible to mistake for anyone else. He wears it deliberately. The Giant is waking, and Mackenzie wants the Ironworks to see him coming.

Personal history

Mackenzie's path to revolution was paved with personal loss. The Merican incursions into Homeland took his friends, and the Tohr plague took most of his family. He blamed the Ironworks for both, and the blame became purpose. From Lakehead, he built the Sleeping Giant into a coordination network spanning Homeland, connecting Reclaimer settlements, Natural One tribes, and sympathizers within the Ironworks itself. His strategy was patience: grow the alliance, stockpile resources, control the waters, and wait for the moment when the Giant could wake without being crushed. His personal vendetta against Bruce Thompson remained the one element of his campaign that defied strategic explanation.
