Pivot Rockwell commands the Community Watch of the Downtown Vestige Islet with a cheerfulness that only makes sense once you understand how much violence she keeps on a leash. A civic-raised Tainted by blood and instinct, she treats the Nuclear Family as her tribe in the fullest sense of the word, and she guards it with the fierce devotion of someone who decided long ago that belonging is worth more than comfort. In public she comes across as practical, warm, and alarmingly capable, which lets the islet trust her judgment even as everyone knows exactly what she is willing to do to anything that threatens the neighborhood. In her, the Watch's ideal of protection as a duty of kin finds its clearest form.
Her home life sharpens the picture rather than softening it. She coaches the Howling Breakers, Downtown Vestige's title-winning murderball team, and raises five adopted children with her wife, a rowdy mix of Tainted and Lascarians she pulled out of the wastes and cleaned up under her roof. The whole crew is known across the islet for finding precisely enough trouble to test everyone's patience while stopping just short of real consequence. And then there is her cooking, in particular the gelatin salads she sets from a broth boiled out of the bone, collagen, and sinew of anyone too stupid or too vicious to leave her people be. On a good day, a single boiling does the job, which in Vestige counts as both mercy and sound community leadership.

Pivot Rockwell's story is a Nuclear Family story. She was raised into the civic life of Downtown Vestige, shaped by its belief that a family city is defended block by block and gate by gate, and given, somewhere along the way, command of the Watch that holds it all together. The Tainted blood and instinct came with her; the loyalty was chosen.
Over the years she gathered a household out of the wasteland's leftovers, five adopted Tainted and Lascarian children and a wife whose name the record does not give, and turned protection of the islet into an extension of protecting her own supper table.
