The Enforcers

The Enforcers started as a man and his crew of roaming mercenaries. They were hired to defend the Arch against undead threats, and somewhere between the first contract and the twentieth, they stopped leaving. What began as temporary employment became permanent residency, and the mercenary crew grew into the town's standing security force. They answer to a small governing council, wear a stamp of an arch with a Darwin symbol beneath it on the back of their jacket, armor, or shirt, and patrol the waterways and streets of the floating settlement with the ease of people who have been doing it long enough to consider it home.
Their duties cover the essential and the unglamorous. They ensure citizens make it to shelter before irradiated fog rolls through, an urgent task signaled by the town's sirens. They protect the Floating Forest from theft, a concern given the Mon Corporation's interest in the plant experiments being conducted there. They keep the waterways safe for trade and travel. They handle disputes, monitor the Maskless movement's growing aggression, and generally serve as the thin line between order and the chaos that Misery Bay would deliver without intervention. The crew is made up of Baywalkers, Retrogrades, and a few Semper Mort, dressed in a mishmash of armor and leather, comfortable on both water and land.
Lately, the Enforcers have been asking for a raise. The town council may not have the money to meet their demands, and the implications of that shortfall are not lost on anyone paying attention. If the Arch cannot afford its protectors, the protectors may leave, or they may decide that the town owes them something more than wages. The Enforcers have been the law in the Arch long enough that the distinction between security force and occupying power is thinner than either side would like to admit. The council needs them. The Enforcers know it. The negotiation continues, and neither the fog nor the Maskless are likely to wait for a resolution.

Structure

The Enforcers answer to a small governing council that helps rule the Arch. The group originated as a single man and his mercenary crew who arrived to deal with undead threats and never left. Over time the crew grew, took on new members, and became a permanent fixture of the town. Their ranks are composed of Baywalkers, Retrogrades, and a few Semper Mort, dressed in a mishmash of armor and leather. Members wear a symbol on their clothing: an arch with a Darwin symbol beneath it.

Public Agenda

Provide security for the Arch: patrol the surrounding area, protect the Floating Forest, keep the waterways safe, and ensure citizens reach shelter before the fog rolls in.

History

The Enforcers began as a roaming mercenary outfit hired to defend the Arch against undead threats. What started as a temporary contract became a permanent arrangement as the crew settled into the town, grew its numbers, and transitioned from outside hire to resident security force.
Their duties expanded from undead defense to general law enforcement. They patrol the area around the Arch, keep the waterways safe, ensure citizens make it to shelter before the fog descends, and protect the Floating Forest from theft. Recently, the Enforcers have been demanding a raise in pay, wringing the town for money it may not have. Whether this escalates into a crisis depends on the Arch's ability to meet their price; the alternative is a town without protection or, worse, a security force with grievances.
