Glow Vipers
The Glow Wastes of Deserter are hostile enough without anything living in them. The irradiated dunes shimmer with residual energy, the ground itself is poison, and the air carries a faint luminescence that makes distances impossible to judge. Into this landscape, evolution or mutation has placed the Glow Viper: a two-headed serpent perfectly adapted to terrain that kills most everything else.
The two heads are not ornamental. Each operates with its own set of senses, giving the viper a wider field of awareness than any single-headed predator. It lies coiled among the glowing sand, its body blending with the ambient radiation until it is nearly invisible against the dunes. Travelers crossing the Glow Wastes rarely see the viper before the strike. The ambush is fast, coordinated between both heads, and delivers venom that compounds the radiation sickness already eating at anyone foolish enough to walk these sands unprotected.
The vipers are one piece of a larger ecosystem of mutated predators that have claimed the Glow Wastes as their own. They share the territory with Shadow Yotes and other radiation-warped hunters, each adapted to a landscape that exists as a monument to the old world's final excess. For the Glow Viper, the irradiated ground is not a hazard. It is home, hunting ground, and camouflage all at once. The dunes glow. The viper glows. And the difference between safe ground and a coiled predator is invisible until it is too late.
