Mis'Merica Square
Once home to a legendary pre-fall beauty pageant, Mis'Merica Square now hosts the largest regular auction of slaves and indentures east of Vegasia. Buyers travel from hundreds of miles away. Suppliers enter their most valuable stock into competitions across categories including age, appearance, health, and skills. Contestants must perform tasks set by the auctioneer and buyers; winners can double or triple their value. Reluctant participants are warned that the gladiator pits buy cheap.
The Square also hosts an annual beauty pageant organized by Merican Telling Visionists with some Hedonist participation. The Sacred Judging comprises four parts: Talent, Suited Swimming, Questions, and the Evening War. The winner receives free room and board at the Gator for a year. A schismatic Telling Visionary faction protests annually, claiming the pageant's true home is in Vegasia. Jay Crew hosts both the pageant and the slave auctions, keeping peace between the Board and the Telling Visionaries through charm, quick wit, and careful study of scripture. The Board tolerates the pageant holiday because the influx of visitors compensates for missed slave revenue.
