Pain Handle
The Pain Handle marks the coastal boundary of Georgiabama, a strip of thick jungle-like terrain between the sea and the interior swamps. South of the Oaken Swamp and along the Rum Coast shore, the region serves as a transitional zone where the deep wetlands give way to coastal scrub and dense vegetation. It is sparsely populated, largely lacking in formal education, and home to mutated wildlife that makes casual travel a dangerous proposition.
The most notable inhabitants of the Pain Handle are not human. Club Tailed Turtles, five-ton mutated lizards with spiked leathery hides and bone-plated sledgehammer tails, roam the jungle fringe. These creatures are fifteen feet long and capable of demolishing structures with a single swing. Books and pre-fall knowledge are virtually nonexistent in the settlements along the Handle; what survives here is practical knowledge, passed from parent to child, about which creatures to avoid and which paths lead to water rather than death.
The Trashlands float visibly offshore, their mountainous refuse formations drifting along the southern currents a few miles from the Pain Handle coast. Herder Raiders operate in the region, and the Oaken Swamp to the north sends its own dangers south with regularity. The Pain Handle is not a destination; it is the terrain you cross to reach somewhere else, and the crossing is never as simple as the distance suggests.
