Throg's End

A massive broken land bridge spans the sound between the northern Brokelands and the Iron Gardens, its sections patched with improvised metal frameworks and scrapped-together paths that keep it barely functional. Throg's End is one of the most frequented pathways into and out of the Brokelands, and one of the most dangerous crossings in Old York. The bridge lists and groans under the weight of every caravan that dares to cross.

Contested Ground

The Blue Line maintains a dispatch station on the northwestern approach, providing a thin semblance of order on that side. The southern approach is another matter entirely, changing hands between warring gangs on a regular basis. High-paying caravans hire local gangs or Iron Cross mercenaries for protection during the crossing, and even then, ambushes are common. The Tremors conduct business deals in the bridge's shadow, adding another layer of tension to an already volatile corridor.

The Shanty Town

Beneath the southern side of the bridge, a shanty town has grown on bits of old boats and utility platforms cobbled together over the water. This is where the bottom-end merchants operate: rat meat dealers, weapon chop shops, and L.I.D. representatives available for hire. Jonah Nails, a Laughing in the Dark gun runner, operates from this warren. The shanty town thrives precisely because it exists beneath notice, in the gap between the bridge above and the water below, where no one with authority bothers to look.
Above, the caravans gamble on the patched path. Below, the real deals happen in the dark.
