Georgiabama

Georgiabama is the southern heartland of the Rum Coast, a land of thick swamps, crushing humidity, and a hospitality that ends with a knife as easily as it begins with a handshake. Encompassing the subregions of By-God-Georgia and South Caroline, the territory stretches from the coastal Pain Handle through the deadly Oaken Swamp and up into the irradiated Rollin Hills. Lizards sun on rocks, snakes slither through reeds, and cicadas buzz in a constant chorus alongside frogs and mockingbirds. The swamps run hot and thick here, humid air drenching travelers in sweat before they can walk ten feet.
The region operates as a patchwork of settlements with no central authority. Peach Tree City functions as the economic hub, its cobbled streets and Soda Company monopoly drawing traders from across the south. Savage Anna serves as the cultural heart, a muddy bayou town where the Savage Angels hold court and the largest music festivals in the region shake the ramshackle buildings until bodies float in nearby swamps. Charles Town plays the role of a southern Vegasia, its gambling halls and Mountain Rocker performances drawing fortune-seekers and fools in equal measure. Between these settlements, the bayous branch in every direction, connecting communities by water and providing highways for the feared Leather Back Raiders who ride Bull Gators through the wetlands.
Georgiabama breeds contradictions. It produces the finest musicians and the worst monsters in equal measure. The King's Court religion permeates every settlement, from the southern rock of Savage Anna to the country twang of Charles Town, while the slave trade operates as a fixed institution. Wormsloe Plantation breeds slaves from birth for sale at weekly auctions. Gator Hunters take down entire Bull Gators by themselves while fighting off raiders. Witch Doctors practice their arts in the deep swamps while the Water Snake Tribe of Natural Ones hides in the darkest reaches of the Oaken Swamp with unparalleled knowledge of the waters. It is a place where sorrow and song exist in the same breath, where beauty and horror share the same stage.
The threats are as varied as the landscape. Herder Raiders harass farms using undead-attracting concoctions to drive shambling hordes toward settlements. Frog Folk Raiders emerge from the wetlands. Sleepers and River Hunters lurk beneath the water's surface, waiting for the unwary. The insect population alone is enough to drive newcomers mad. And yet people stay, drawn by the music, the trade, the fierce independence of a land that answers to no one and apologizes for nothing.

Geography

Thick swamps dominate the lowlands of Georgiabama, their humid air drenching everything in sweat. The terrain divides into two broad subregions: By-God-Georgia to the south, where the swamps are deeper and more dangerous, and South Caroline to the north and east, where forested hills rise above the wetlands. Branching bayous connect the settlements by water, serving as both trade routes and raider highways.
The Oaken Swamp sprawls across the heart of By-God-Georgia, a vast wetland infested with Bull Gators, anacondas, and muck archer fish the size of ships. North of the swamp, the Pain Handle marks the coastal boundary where the Trashlands float offshore. In South Caroline, the Rollin Hills provide irradiated foothills where radiation-warped trees tower over rapids and mutated wildlife stalks the undergrowth. The terrain grows harder underfoot as one moves north, which means shambling undead become a greater threat where the soft swamp mud no longer slows them.
Numerous waterways crisscross the region. Coastal waters are patrolled by Salt Wise vessels, while inland bayous serve as the primary means of travel between settlements. The climate is relentless: insects swarm in perpetual clouds, moisture encourages dense vegetation, and the heat clings to the body like a second skin.
