The Overgrowth

Somewhere in the midwest, the wasteland stops pretending to be dead and starts growing. The Overgrowth is a region where Infection-fueled fungal growth has consumed the landscape, replacing trees with fungal columns, soil with spongy mycelium, and silence with the wet sounds of things that should not be alive continuing to expand. The boundary between the living and the Mortis Amaranthine is thinner here than anywhere else on the continent.
The region is home to phenomena that Necrologists study from a distance and Gravenauts approach only with preparation and escort. The Forest of the Unmaker lies within its borders, a place that absorbs everything that enters. Explorers who have survived the Overgrowth's outer reaches describe a landscape that responds to the living: fungal tendrils that reach toward warmth, ground that shifts underfoot, and the constant sense of being observed by something that does not have eyes.

Geography

Corebook Description

Once beyond the Rocky Mountain ranges east of the coast, the hard irradiated rain and altered landscape gives way to a strangely verdant forest that has expanded with the passing generations, slowly engulfing the long shadowed mountain valleys and foothills. These rough terrains make travel difficult and settlement all but impossible, though those determined enough can cut through to make trade with the other cities of the Wastes.
Infection-saturated midwest region where fungal growth has consumed the landscape. Home to the Forest of the Unmaker and the thinnest boundary between life and death.
